Spring 2013 Hat Trends? Finding the right hat for your personal style

What Hat Matches Your Spring 2013 Style

By: Kathleen Lisson

Have you cleaned your closet of winter items and brought out all your spring and summer clothes? For me, the changing of the seasons is a perfect time to consider adding a hat or two to my wardrobe.

When I first started wearing hats, I had one: a straw boater hat. I wore it with sweet summery dresses. It made me feel feminine and pretty, like a country girl out for a stroll in a field of wildflowers.

When I tried pairing it with other clothes, I didn't get that feeling. That was a very important step in my understanding of hats. If I wasn't in a sweet country sundress type of mood, a straw boater just would not work.

What do your Spring 2013 clothes say about your personality and mood?

Take a look at your wardrobe and separate the clothes into sections.

Which outfits make you feel Sweet? Glamorous? Fierce? Avant-garde?

When you shop for hats to match your Spring outfits, try on hats that make you feel the same way.

Nic Harris from Kangol put together a great insiders view of how to wear a hat that shows trying on hats from a customer's point of view. There are two ladies featured - an unsure but interested woman and a hat lover that knows exactly what she loves and is interested in finding something that matches her style

  1. Hard as it might be to believe, I don't have any basic vintage (wide brimmed) straw hats, so I'm very actively scouting my fave online sources for some during these early spring days before summer sets in (I don't want to go another summer without at least one, they're so cute and super practical).

  3. It may sound odd - but where I live only tourists/foreigners wear hats!
The unbelievable part is that here it is always hot so wearing a hat makes all the sense in the world because it actually protects you !
I like hats, but have very few: a Panama Hat, a big straw hat for the beach, a fedora and a baseball cap. That's it :)

  6. Kathleen,
Thank you so much for visiting and leaving the nice comment on my blog. I really appreciate your good wishes!
I just started looking around your blog and it makes me so wish I could wear hats. I feel like I look dumb, but my mom and husband insist I look cute in hats. Hmmm, maybe I just haven't found the right one for me. I'll take all your hints with me the next time I am shopping!
    Hugs,
    Julie

    1. Julie, I think that mood makes a big difference in if a lady enjoys a hat. Plenty of hats are 'cute' or 'adorable' and they are just not for me - I like more 'elegant' hats.

  7. As you know from my blog I have seriously embraced my fedora. Next in line is a chic silk scarf to be worn with oversized sunnies. What am I waiting for? Spring!!!!

Great tips, Kathleen! Not many people are brave enough to feel avantgarde in a jaw dropping hat :) Keep on inspiring!
