What Hat to Wear to a Tea Party
by: Kathleen Lisson
I recently attended the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County's first annual Famous Ladies' Tea at Emma Willard in Troy. I 'met' several famous women, including Emma Willard and Eleanor Roosevelt.
You can also get a first look at my new hat-friendly spring haircut - a Louise Brooks - style bob.
Fellow Junior League member Eleanor Roosevelt!
Women's Rights Activist and Educator Emma Willard
Hat - Abigail Aldridge
Pearls - Ross Simons Graduated Pearl Necklace
Dress - Modcloth 'Day on the Breezeway'
According to the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, at least 30,000 teens and adults in our county can’t complete a job application, write a letter to a child’s school or read the directions on a bottle of cough syrup.

DeleteWhat a shocking statistic on literacy! I'm always so impressed by the causes you support.
ReplyDeleteLove the lacy hat and your lavender dress!
Thank you.
DeleteKathleen, you look so, so immensely lovely. I adore your new 1920s worthy haircut, that beautiful springtime frock (so cute!), and of course your magnificent ostrich feather topper.

Thanks! I think of how you'll respond every time I go vintage-inspired with an outfit!
DeleteYour new bob is so fresh and pretty, and your hat is simply gorgeous, Kathleen. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!

DeleteI can hardly believe that literacy is an issue in the USA and it's wonderful that people are trying to solve the issue.
ReplyDeleteI love hats with feathers as I like how the feathers move.

The LVORC says that adult illiteracy is a problem partly because of embarrassment. Many do not come forward to ask for the help that they need.
DeleteYour new haircut is amazing, it emphasizes your beautiful blue eyes. The hat is wonderful with this romantic dress.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYou look wonderful! I think that is the perfect hat for a tea party and I love your dress!

Thank you!
DeleteI love your haircut...it will work beautifully with your hats.
ReplyDeleteYou do have the most beautiful collection of hats. I'm curious as to how long you have collected them and how many you have.
I have always had a hat or two around for going to Saratoga, but it has been during the past two years that I have really completed my hat collection. I probably have about 30 hats, between summer/winter, headbands and evening styles.
DeleteThat hat is something I'd find an excuse to wear for ANY occasion, and it suits you wonderfully! Love the look of your dress too!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I bought this hat because it was in a neutral color and it looks good with quite a few of my dresses, especially the lacy, feminine ones.
DeleteExcellent cause ... you are smart and thoughtful as well as beautiful. Really charming hat, of course. I think of you with every episode of "Downton". Did you catch "Parade's End"?
ReplyDeleteI have not had the chance to watch Parade's End. Thank you so much!
DeleteI love these photos Kathleen :) This pale yellow hat looks beautiful with your hair :) I only recently discovered that us redheads can get away with a few shades of yellow. A true revelation for me! I'm curious to see your new haircut in full too ^^
ReplyDeleteI started my internship a little over a month ago and my world has really opened. I am a social worker in training, and the organisation I currenltly work for helps the lower or un-educated in our society grow strong enough to hit the normal economic market. It baffles me how many people I see that cannot read or write, be it because they never learned, forgot how to write after years and years of not practicing or because Dutch is not their primary language and they have to start learning it. I never understood how big this problem actually was until I started this internship. I am grateful for women like you and the ones that join this cause for doing what you can to help. You are truly wonderful!! x
Thanks so much for your kind comments!
