What hat to wear to a wedding

When choosing a hat to wear to a wedding, think about these four tips:
The formality of the wedding - take your cue from the invitation. Very formal invites mean that the wedding will be formal, so you can wear a hat with confidence.
Less formal weddings and destination weddings may be the perfect occasion to wear a pretty neutral-colored straw hat with a romantic dress.
The location of the wedding - If you will be in a church, a hat will be welcome. If the wedding is outside during the day, your hat will protect you from the sun.
Your outfit - Choose a hat that completes your outfit. Don't be afraid to wear your dress while hat shopping. Some great tips on which hat to wear with different types of dresses is here:

A note about veils and wide brimmed hats - If you want to take photographs of the bride and groom, make sure that you can comfortably take pictures with your hat on.

DeleteThat's such a good tip about wearing a hat and taking pictures...can't tell you how many times I've had to get my husband to hold my hat! I'm dreaming about getting a hat with a veil!

I love veils, but they are tricky with a camera. I'm scared to rip my veiling, so I pull it up to sit on top of my hat when snapping photos.

DeleteNo one corners the market (or sartorial inspiration board side of things) like the Brits do when it comes to weddings and hats/fascinators. I've always adored the toppers that female guests wear to weddings in the UK, be they understated little fascinators or some of the show-stopping giant hats we saw on guests at William and Kate's wedding. More folks on this side of the pond need to take a page from the British wedding hat playbook!
