What pairs with orange?

 How to Wear Orange

 by Kathleen Lisson

When I was younger, I shied away from orange because it was so ... Halloween. Then I fell in love with this orange dress from Reiss. Now I can wear orange year-round, without looking like a pumpkin.

Dress: Reiss
Shoes: Nine West Austin
Hosiery: Ann Taylor

I like how well the orange pairs with my brown accessories. I also paired it with green at a visit to the Saratoga Racecourse last year.

  2. I think orange is such a pretty color but people seem to shy away from it a lot. You wore it perfectly! I also really love oranges with blues.

    1. Yi-chia, I agree! I love the way Wendy from Wendy's Lookbook combines those two colors.

  6. You are such a classy lady. Every time I read and look at your blog I want to be a little more lady-like. And, you make it look so fun and carefree at the same time. The orange is lovely on you and I love both the brown and the green with it.
I do love wearing orange, it's a happy, happy color. Just don't laugh when you see how I wore my new orange dress.

  8. Wonderful nod to orange! I actually quite like the color on my skin, but don't have any actual orange items in my wardrobe. Coral is my substitute. Your cloche is such a nice shape on you too!

  9. That is so funny about the orange and Halloween comment...I used to be the exact same way. I think that must have been something our mother's told us. Now I agree...orange is so flattering to all skin tones and can be fresh and delightful, like your dress here.

    1. Suzanne, I think I picked up my fear on the playground. It's like associating hard boiled eggs with Easter, Turkey with Thanksgiving and Green with St. Patrick's day. The link is so strong, I won't eat hard boiled eggs during Lent because I fear I will be sick of them by Easter.

    1. Kim, Yes! I think that's the key to staying away from Halloween - no black!

  11. Orange looks smashing on you, Kathleen! It's a colour I've always enjoyed, too, and all the more so since marrying a man whose favourite hue just happens to be orange (and it's close relatives like peach and salmon). Over the years I've found that navy, denim, grey, taupe, green, pale pink, some purples, and dark yellows can often work well with orange to help ensure it stays far away from the Halloween realm.
