DIY Tutorial - How to Wear a Summer Scarf Indian-style

I am fair skinned, so most florescent colors don't flatter my complexion. I enjoy wearing bright colors, though, so I like to bring out one of my orange dresses on a hot, sunny day.

I have started wearing my summer scarves Indian-style. This scarf is actually an authentic dupatta scarf. Scarves protect my shoulders from the sun, keep me from getting a chill inside my air-conditioned office and make me feel so elegant and romantic when the flutter in the breeze.

  15. Have you ever seen The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie with Maggie Smith? She plays a Scottish schoolteacher in an all girls school and she has a lovely retro wardrobe. One of the most beautiful things in the first scenes is her lovely fluttery scarf worn in the way you describe. Beautiful!

  17. So completely beautiful! Orange is a tricky colour for me to pull off, too, though I have found some luck with hues that fall on either the very light or very dark side of the scale, such as pale coral or dark rust, respectively. I'm glad to have a few shades of orange to wear, because it's Tony's favourite colour (all shades) and I have an annual tradition of sporting it for his birthday (so another orange outfit is on the horizon here soon - his b-day is on August 6th).

  23. Orange is definitely a good color on you. Love the idea of wearing summer scarves Indian style, thanks for the idea as well as the tutorial. Like you just modeled for us, the scarf is so much more flattering than a jacket.

  24. Kathleen, you always look so fab in your hats, but this one is a standout! The color and textures really showcase your coloring, and it has an almost tomboyish vibe which is so piquant with your ladylike dress and comportment. Perfection! steph
